Crystal and Cointelegraph expose crypto scams

by the Crystal Marketing Team

At Crystal, we’ve spent years investigating blockchain-based financial crime. While our tools are trusted by regulators, financial institutions, and investigators worldwide, we believe that true prevention starts with something simpler: awareness.

That’s why we partnered with Cointelegraph to launch Crypto Scam Autopsy—a 4-part public awareness campaign based on real-world scam cases uncovered through our research.

What’s in the campaign

Published by Cointelegraph and shaped by Crystal, the Crypto Scam Autopsy includes:

  • Four in-depth articles analyzing different scam types
  • Real-world examples drawn from our casework
  • Interactive quizzes co-developed by Crystal
  • A clear call to action for reporting and prevention

These stories aren’t case studies pulled from investigations—they’re based on real conversations. People reach out to Crystal looking for help after being scammed, often not knowing where to turn. This campaign is for them—and for everyone who could be next.

New content will be released throughout June, starting Friday, June 13.

What kind of scams are we covering

Each chapter explores a different kind of deception, ranging from fake investment platforms and SIM swaps to emotional manipulation and recovery scams that double down on victims.

These stories aren’t theoretical. They’re based on real accounts shared with us by people targeted or defrauded—clients, partners, and individuals who reached out looking for answers. We’ve seen patterns repeat, and this campaign is designed to help more people recognize the warning signs before it’s too late.

Why Crystal got involved

Crystal launched this campaign to give structure and visibility to a growing pattern we see every day: people being defrauded in complex, highly personal ways.

We supplied the stories, co-developed the educational format with Cointelegraph, and helped shape the narrative arc. This isn’t just about compliance or intelligence—it’s about helping people understand how scams work before they fall for one.

Introducing scam-alert.io

As part of our broader public safety mission, we also launched scam-alert.io—a free and anonymous reporting platform for anyone who has encountered a scam in the crypto space.

It’s not just a form; it’s a tool for collective awareness. Each report contributes to a larger understanding of how scams spread, evolve, and hide in plain sight.

Users can:

  • Submit scam reports without logging in
  • Learn about common red flags
  • Access educational resources in real time

The insights gathered through scam-alert.io support future research, investigative leads, and outreach efforts like this campaign.
